Duh. I can’t imagine chicken with a bellybutton. That would be weird.

This isn’t true! Women technically lay eggs inside of the bodies, in the ovaries, which then leads to the oviducts (fallopian tubes), where the egg and sperm ‘meet’ and fertilization occurs, and then to the uterus, where babies develop.

To Dylan, you’re wrong. The fact is about LAYING eggs, and women don’t lay eggs, they just give birth. Do babies hatch out of an egg? No. Besides that comment, at first I thought it was interesting, but after 3 seconds it was the most obvious thing ever. Of course animals that lay eggs don’t have a naval because they aren’t connected to an umbilical cord, therefore, there wouldn’t be any scar (naval) to be seen.

The term ‘egg’ is not technical for humans, the ‘egg’ is actually an ‘Oocyte’ that is fertilized and turns into a blastocyte.

But there is an equivilant to an umbilical cord in the egg to which air exchanges can occur along the wall of the egg and oxygenate the blood in the embryo.

Animals that hatch from eggs that are, indeed, attatched to the yolk sac via an umbilical cord have a small scar that heals. Some creatures have a yolk sack attatched to them directly. they absorb the sac membrane or discard it, but none have bellybuttons.

I will begin using the term “crazy as a chickens bellybutton” with my child in casual conversation. Thanks for the inspiration!
