The famous “I ❤ NY” logo was drawn in the back of a taxi cab, given to New York for free, and makes New York State close to $30 million per year.
In 2009, Tropicana invested $35 million to rebrand their Orange Juice packaging. Within two months of the change, sales dropped 20% and they lost significant market share before switching back to their original carton. The failed marketing experiment cost them over $50 million.
The Friars is a pub in the small town of Bridgnor, UK. Recently, it became widely known, thanks to a designer’s creativity. Presumably, the owner of the pub, asked Dave, to create a poster for the “Music Night”. The poster supposed to have an announcement of the event and the list of music bands performing in the pub. The designer Dave was so lazy, that he just took a screenshot of the conversation and designed it as an advertising poster.
The design head of Corvette wanted the Mako Shark Corvette painted to look like the shark mounted in his office. When the design team couldn’t match the colors they stole the shark and painted it to look like the car. The design head never noticed and was happy with the results.
The reason Mickey Mouse has four fingers on each hand: “Artistically five digits are too many for a mouse. His hand would look like a bunch of bananas. Financially, not having an extra finger in each of 45,000 drawings that make up a six and one half minute short has saved the Studio millions.”
The bridges and gates that are displayed on euro banknotes do not represent real buildings. They are made up so that every country can relate.
