California, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin have ruled that “Ladies’ Nights” are against the law because they fall under gender discrimination. They can still have ‘ladies nights’ they just can’t offer any discounts to one gender.
Resumes with White sounding names (e.g. Emily and Brendan) elicit 50% more callbacks than resumes with African American sounding names (e.g. Lakisha and Jamal). This discrimination persists even when resumes with African American names list more credentials than resumes with White names.
In California and 3 other US states, “Ladie’s Night” are against the law because they are considered “gender discrimination”.
