18 year old Aaron Deveau of Haverhill, MA was found guilty for motor vehicle homicide by texting, June 2012. Possibly the first in the United States. Sentenced 2 years in prison and loss of his license for 15 years.
The first pedestrian killed by a car happened on August 17th 1896: Mrs Bridget Driscoll was frozen in place by panic as Arthur Edsell ran her over at the blistering speed of 4 MPH.
