In 2012 Pizza Hut planned to release a limited edition perfume that that smelled like fresh dough. Thousands responded requesting the perfume for themselves but only 110 bottles were produced and shared with lucky Facebook fans who won a bottle. The packaging resembled mini pizza boxes.
Pizza Hut restaurants in China stopped offering one trip salad bars- due to customers creating elaborately engineered “salad towers” carefully balanced on one plate.
The two founders of Pizza Hut sold the business to Pepsi in 1977, and one of the founders then became a prolific Papa John’s franchisee, owning 133 locations by the year 2001. During legal struggles with Pizza Hut in the late 1990s, Papa John’s ran commercial advertisements highlighting the fact, including a dramatization showing Frank Carney [the founder] coming to a Pizza Hut stockholders’ meeting wearing a Papa John’s apron, saying, “Sorry, guys. I found a better pizza.”
In 2013, a Pizza Hut GM stood up and refused to force his employees to work Thanksgiving, believing they should get to spend time with family instead.
Pizza Hut once made a delivery to the International Space Station in 2001. They paid the Russians $1 million to transport the Pizza (and make a commercial from it).
